Return/Transfer Policy

Please note that One Step Closer Events operates a strict 7 day refund policy. If you wish to cancel your place and receive a full refund, you must do this within 7 days of signing up. After this time, One Step Closer Events have the right to decline requests for full refunds.
If you wish to transfer your place to another runner, you can do this anytime up until two weeks before the race day itself. Please contact us at and advise who will be running in your place. Please note we are no longer transfering or defering places

The Route

  • Start: Cornmarket, Pontefract Town Centre
  • Course: Takes you out of Pontefract and into the beautiful countryside through Ackworth, Wentbridge and Carleton before heading back towards town
  • Finish: A final lap of the centre before you finish on the cobbles of Market Place

It’s Sunday so parking in Pontefract is free. The most convenient places to park are the Tesco (WF8 1BJ) and Morrisons (WF8 4PQ) car parks. We also have an overflow car park at Pontefract Racecourse (WF8 4QD) which is only a 10 minute walk from the start.

The Pontefract Half Marathon has a full UKA licence. Our licence number is: 2018-32007.

Road Closures

Roads will be closed to all vehicles (with the exception of emergency vehicles) We are working with a fantastic traffic management company, Amberon and our marshals will be on the course but we would still like you all to be aware and stay safe

Please be aware that a number of roads will be affected by the closures on the day. Please click here for a full list of roads closed for the event. Access onto to these roads is not permitted between the times stated.


Ridings FM will also be there on the day to provide a great atmosphere and hopefully get you fired up on the start line with some tunes!


We have had a lot of runners enquiring about the use of headphones. We can confirm that they are allowed although we would ask you to remain vigilant of your surroundings and other runners.
